The Little Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi (LSOSF) are an Indigenous Congregation of a Diocesan right founded in 1923 by an Irish Franciscan Missionary Sister for Africa- Mother Mary Kevin Kearney. Our Mother House is in Lugazi Diocese in Uganda.
Our Generalate is in Jinja Diocese near the source of the River Nile. Currently we are working mainly in East Africa that is Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
Our Ministries include teaching at all levels, providing community based health care services, operating hospitals and dispensaries, ministering to street children, assisting Women and Youth in development concerns, and assisting people with disabilities i.e. the deaf and dumb, the blind, mentally & physically challenged. We also care for the orphans, and the prisoners. A few of our Sisters are engaged in pastoral work and all other duties that help to maintain the Institutions such as Catering, Secretarial, Financial Management, Counseling the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), HIV / Aids patients and Organic Farming.
The professed members of our Congregation number 700 and we have a good number of young girls in our formation houses.
The Charism of LSOSF is to bring newness and fullness of Christ’s life in the world today by reaching out with compassion to the marginalized in the Spirit of St. Francis.
