    Annual General Meeting

    20th - 21st March 2010

    At the Annual General Meeting the Heads of Departments of Tangaza College and Chemchemi Institue shared about the programmes which are currently being offered at Certificate, Diploma and Degree level. As Fr. Paddy Roe outlined the development of Tangaza it was very evident that the missionary thrust and the diversity of Charisms had enriched its growth since each Department grew out of the expressed needs of those in Ministry and the charisms of particular Congregations.

    We are indeed fortunate to have in Tangaza such a variety of opportunities for preparing Sisters for Mission in today's Church and World. We hope that the collaboration between the Institutes will continue to grow.

    There was also the opportunity to share some concerns particularly in relation to ethical standards and open communication.

    During the Meeting we looked at the need to make a stronger Executive by lessening the changeover of membership. It was decided that elections would take place during the October Meeting only and that we would have a calling for nominations prior to the Meeting. Two new appointees were added to the Executive, Sr. Francesca, Nazareth Sisters of the Annunciation and Sr. Margaret Aringo, Franciscan Sisters of St. Joseph.

    The Executive has made a commitment to put in place sub-committees and advisory groups which will be able to further the development of Chemchemi Programmes and the Justice and Peace Office.

    The Justice and Peace Office has once again played an active part in the Lenten Campaign and is very activley involved in raising awareness about the Constitutions and forthcoming elections.

    The Executive has been mandated to put in place Policies and Guidelines in relation to AOSK activities. As the Association grows it is necessary to find new ways of operating.

    There has been a lot of planning for programmes during 2010. Once again we are indebted to Sisters from America who are willing to offer their services during their summer vacation..

    ASEC PROGRAMME

    The Graduation of ASEC in December was a colouful affair.

    Special thanks to Sr. Lucy Ndegwa, who was the East Africa Coordinator for ASEC during the initiation of the Leadership Programmes. Sr. Lucy has been recalled to her Congregation.

    The new appointee is Sr. Lina Wanjiku Ndungu, Sisters of Emmanuel.

    During 2010 ASEC will offer two two-week computer programmes and will beging planning and accepting of Participants for two Leadership Training Programmes for 2011. These two programmes have been well received by Congregations. Presently we have a waiting list for 2010 courses.

    Staffing.

    AOSK seems to be always searhing for Sister Staff to fill key positions and to plan together for the future of AOSK. This year we have had a new Administrator appointed in Chemchemi and a new Accountant in Tumaini. We thank the Congregations who have released Sisters and seek ongoing cooperation with Congregations so that we can plan for smooth handing over and ensure key positions are not left vacant.

    Congregations have been invited to enter into an agreement with AOSK in terms of preparation of staff for AOSK. Initially we were assisted to send Sisters to St. Anselm in England. These Sisters are currently serving as members of the sabbatical Staff. Some are continuing study in Kenya. The Funders have requested that we explore ways in which the initial prpearation can be done in Africa to enable better use of available resources. Congregations have been asked to submit names of sisters who may be available to be prepared for managment roles in AOSK.
